"We did well,'' Waterford coach Henry Agallar said. "Second out of 18 teams isn't bad. There were some good teams in the meet. We dropped some that we shouldn't have and could have won the meet. But I'm still happy.'' Waterford had two champions. Anthony D'Alie won the 140-pound championship, beating Jeremy Pingel of Valders 18-6 in the title match. D'Alie won four matches on the day and was chosen the Outstanding Wrestler of the meet.
"Anthony just dominated,'' Agallar said of D'Alie, who improved his season record to 15-0. "He just controlled the match. He beat some really good kids today.'' Waterford's Anthony Azarian also took first place. Azarian defeated Tony Creszo of Plymouth 11-4 in the 145-pound title match. With his four victories Thursday, Azarian improved to 11-0. Azarian finished third in voting for the Outstanding Wrestler award.
"He's also wrestling really well,'' Agallar said of Azarian.
Otto was the only other champion from Racine County. Otto, a senior, defeated Dean Prebusch of Watertown 8-6 in the championship match. Earlier in the meet, Otto beat William McCormick of Heritage Christian 7-6. McCormick entered the match with a 15-0 record.
"Jon wrestled well,'' Case coach Mark Petersen said of Otto, who improved his record to 12-1. "He's doing what he needs to do; he just has to keep it going.'' Case's Kris Magruder finished fourth. He lost to Jason Schreiber of Wisconsin Heights 2-1 in the third-place match.
"Kris is wrestling awfully well,'' Petersen said. "He lost a tough match against the kid from Wisconsin Heights.'' PARK: Frank Swift, at 160, had a perfect tournament at the two-day Northern Exposure Tournament in Merrill.
Swift, who had six pins and an 8-0 victory, wasn't scored upon during the tournament.
"He's wrestled very well the last two weeks," Park coach Andy Fenderson said. "He was outstanding at the tournament this weekend."
The Panthers, 3-4 in duals at the tournament, finished 17th out of 24 teams.
Brandon Fenderson at 145, Matt Burdick at 152, and Ryan Brown at 275, were 5-2.
